Doug Bloomfield: AIPAC Case Probably Won't Go To Trial But Organization Will Pay
Syndicated columnist Doug Bloomfield and I worked together at AIPAC back in the 1980's. He was the organization's Legislative Director and one of the most effective lobbyists in town.
In this column, he writes about the case against the two AIPAC defendants, brought under the Espionage Act.
The trial is scheduled for later this spring but Doug seems to think it won't happen. The government's case, in Doug's opinion, is too weak. Bloomfield wonders why the government brought it in the first place. Good question.
In any case, the dropping of the case would be good news for the defendants who have been dangling in the wind for five years (what happened to the 6th amendment guarantee of a "speedy trial?")
It won't be good news for AIPAC, Doug writes. He believes that the two defendants will sue AIPAC for "wrongful termination" and to avoid trial, AIPAC will pony up some big bucks to the pair.
It's an interesting read. Bloomfield is good.
