Dennis Ross and Daniel Kurtzer each provided creative ideas for diplomacy in the aftermath of the Gaza conflict.

Jul 31, 2014

In 2005, under the leadership of then Prime Minister "Arik" Sharon, Israel unilaterally pulled its troops and settlers out of Gaza. Between Israel's withdrawal and now, Hamas leadership has engaged in a long term strategy of allocating funds desperately needed for public use instead to acquiring missiles and building a complex structure of tunnels through which it could launch terrorist attacks against Israel. When Prime Minister Morsi's Muslim Brotherhood government, a Hamas ally, was replaced by the antagonistic government of Abdel Fatteh el-Sisi, Hamas found itself under pressure as Egypt blockaded the crossings they had previously used to access the outside world and Hamas was unable to pay salaries to its personnel.

"If Mr. Dayan, a former settler leader, were serious about promoting practical steps to create a better atmosphere in the region, he would join Israel’s justice minister, Tzipi Livni, finance minister, Yair Lapid, and opposition leader, Isaac Herzog, who have all recently proposed that Israel freeze West Bank settlement construction beyond the major Israeli population blocs."

Today US administration spokespersons will explain that the speech focused on security and not on foreign policy, and that is the reason the Middle East was not mentioned. But that does not explain why yesterday morning, in an appearance that was broadcast by three networks, US Secretary of State John Kerry did not mention the Israeli-Palestinian conflict at all.

Israel Policy Forum (IPF) is deeply saddened that the latest ceasefire attempt was violently upended by a Hamas suicide bomb, and the terror organization’s subsequent capture of an Israeli soldier, Hadar Goldin.

Jul 23, 2014

IPF reiterates its strong support for Israel as it defends itself from terror attacks, and hopes that a cease-fire can be reached that stops the violence of the past few weeks and brings long-term quiet to the people of Israel and Gaza.   It is clear that the status quo in Gaza, which has enabled Hamas to invest in innovative ways to threaten and kill Israelis while neglecting the needs of Gaza’s residents, cannot be perpetuated.

Israel Policy Forum (IPF) expresses its continued support for the State of Israel and the Israel Defense Forces in its efforts to destroy Hamas' underground tunnels and stop the firing of rockets toward Israel's population centers.  In recent days, Hamas has continued to fire rockets and used its tunnel network to gain access to Israel with the intent to cause destruction and harm to Israel and its citizens.  IPF continues to support Israel's right to defend its citizens from these attacks.

Jul 15, 2014

Israel Policy Forum commends the Government of Egypt in its efforts to facilitate a ceasefire to the hostilities between Israel and Hamas.  We further praise the Government of Israel for its preparedness to agree to a ceasefire, and condemn Hamas’ refusal to do so.

Israel Policy Forum is deeply concerned regarding the intensification of rocket attacks by Hamas and other terror organizations from the Gaza Strip.
