In an ideal world, if we were writing this up as a scenario we would say let’s put this all on hold, and everyone stays away happily and nothing changes for the worse, and we pick it up perhaps when everyone is stronger. But status quos are not status quos and people know that. They either get better – or more commonly – they actually get worse because they are left neglected. I fear that this status quo, over the next 10 or 11 months if there isn’t some very significant policy activity, will deteriorate into violence.

Reactions to the Mofaz Peace Plan

Two weeks ago, Defense Minister MK Shaul Mofaz announced a new peace plan which involves the creation of a Palestinian state with temporary borders as the first stage to negotiations for a two-state solution. His newly-formulated plan elicited many different reactions. Following is a summary of some key responses.

MK Mofaz discusses peace plan with IPF

Earlier today, MK Lt. Gen. Shaul Mofaz discussed his newly-announced peace plan with IPF National Scholar Steven L. Spiegel. MK Mofaz is currently number two in the Kadima Party, which heads the opposition in the Knesset. He formerly served as Minister of Defense and Chief of Staff of the IDF.

Mofaz proposes immediate Palestinian state

Shalom Yerushalmi reports in Ma'ariv today that Knesset Member Shaul Mofaz (former Defense Minister and Chief of Staff) is proposing the creation of a Palestinian state immediately, with temporary borders, and to create territorial contiguity by moving settlement outposts and paving new roads.
