In an ideal world, if we were writing this up as a scenario we would say let’s put this all on hold, and everyone stays away happily and nothing changes for the worse, and we pick it up perhaps when everyone is stronger. But status quos are not status quos and people know that. They either get better – or more commonly – they actually get worse because they are left neglected. I fear that this status quo, over the next 10 or 11 months if there isn’t some very significant policy activity, will deteriorate into violence.

Alon Ben Meir

Dr. Alon Ben-Meir is an expert on Middle East politics and affairs, specializing in the Arab-Israeli peace process. For the past twenty five years, Dr. Ben-Meir has been directly involved in various negotiations and has operated as a liaison between top Arab and Israeli officials. Dr. Ben-Meir serves as senior fellow at New York University's Center for Global Affairs where he teaches courses on the Middle East and international negotiations. He is the host of "Global Leaders: Conversations with Alon Ben-Meir," a series of debates and conversations with top policy-makers around the world. Dr. Ben-Meir is also the Middle Eastern Studies Project Director at the World Policy Institute.

Dr. Ben-Meir writes frequently and has written for numerous publications including the Middle East Times, the Journal of Turkish Weekly, Le Monde, American Chronicle, the Week, the Political Quarterly, the Jerusalem Post, Gulf Times, and the Huffington Post. He also makes regular television and radio appearances, and has been featured on networks such as CNN, FOX, PBS, ABC, Al Jazeera (English and Arabic), and NPR. Dr. Ben-Meir regularly briefs international visitors at the U.S. State Department on issues concerning American foreign policy.

Dr. Ben-Meir has authored six books related to Middle East policy and is currently working on a book about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. He holds a masters degree in philosophy and doctorate in international relations from Oxford University. Dr. Ben-Meir is fluent in English, Arabic, and Hebrew.
