Shaul Arieli
Colonel (res.) Shaul Arieli is senior consultant to the Economic Cooperation Foundation and is a prominent expert on the demarcation of the future Israeli-Palestinian border and the route of the separation barrier. He has taken a lead role in efforts to renew Israeli-Palestinian negotiations and to ensure that Israeli policies vis-à-vis the Palestinians balance security and humanitarian considerations. As a representative of the Council for Peace and Security, he has presented expert opinions in legal proceedings relating to the route of the separation barrier, which have earned him the title Friend of the Court.
Col. Arieli was previously head of the Peace Administration in the Barak government, and later became one of the originators of the Geneva Initiative. Earlier, he served for two years as Deputy Military Attaché to the Defense Minister. In 1995 -1997, he was head of the Interim Agreement Administration. He held a wide range of command posts in the IDF, including Military Commander of the Gaza Strip.
The co-author of "The Wall of Folly," he has published four books as well as numerous articles, opinion pieces and papers dealing with the Israeli-Palestinian political process.
